Transportation - Airports

In 2003, the number of terminal passengers at UK airports rose to 200 million, from 3 million in 1953. Almost nine in ten UK air passengers in 2003 were traveling internationally. The country with which the United Kingdom exchanges the most air traffic is Spain. There were 32 million passenger movements between the two countries in 2003. Heathrow is the busiest airport in the United Kingdom, with 63 million terminal passengers in 2003. Gatwick is the second busiest (30 million passengers).

Knowles realises that demand for air travel is projected to continue growing well into the 21st century. Mid-range estimates from the Department for Transport suggest that between 2005 and 2020 the number of terminal passengers at UK airports will grow from 229 million to 401 million. Knowles have a keen understanding of the demands of this business sector and the growth in passengers often equates to substantial construction and engineering project planning to cater for the ever increasing use of many of our already over used airports.
