Transportation - Rail

The Rail industry is going through a period of change which is affecting the entire industry. Knowles recognises the problems affecting the Rail industry. Problems as diverse as the shortage of skilled workers to the immense task of up-grading many of the country's main lines all concern Knowles and more importantly are concerning Knowles clients.

On 19 January 2004, the Secretary of State for Transport announced that his Department was to undertake a fundamental review of the rail industry. The review considered the structural and organisational changes needed to enable the rail industry to deliver for its customers, as well as looking at the regulation of safety. The key priorities for the rail industry were to control its costs and live within the level of public funding available to it, and to improve its performance for passengers and freight users. Both are vital if the railway is to prosper and grow.
